Welcome to Michele's Thomas Hardy Bookshelf

There are so many of Hardy's novels and books on Hardy generally available, that rather than clutter up the bottom of the biography page listing them, I decided to create a separate page. All these books are available from Amazon UK or US. I have tended to list the Penguin editions because I prefer them - there are usually numerous other editions by other publishers but I find the Penguin Classics editions to be generally helpful, with good introductions and helpful notes. Robert Gittings - Two volume biography The Younger Thomas Hardy (Penguin, 1975) and The Older Hardy (Heinemann, 1978).
Florence Emily Hardy - The Life of Thomas Hardy, 1840-1928 (Macmillan, 1975) - this book was published after Hardy's death. It has been written in the third person, and is ostensibly written by Hardy's second wife, but was in fact dictated by Hardy to Florence.
