Books1 Welcome to Michele's WW1 Poetry Book Page Books2

This book page encompasses WW1 poetry and literary criticism. If anyone thinks I ought to have added anything else email me details (a few lines about the content besides the title, author, publisher and publication date will suffice). I will add to this list again as I continue my research and study. If anyone wants any further information on WW1 literature or history books, then please do email me and I'll do my best to help. Or if you prefer, I am an Associate of Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk so use their search boxes here, and if anyone wants to buy any of the books mentioned below follow the appropriate links ! If you are fed up with friends and family buying you books you are not interested in, why not set up a wish-list with Amazon UK ? To find out more, and to set up the list, click here.

For out-of-print books you could do worse that check the Advanced Book Exchange site - this site features dealers from the UK, US, Australia, Canada and others. (Note on publishers and dates - the publishers and dates given for the volumes are mostly for the edition I happen to have on my shelves (or to have read) rather than the first edition.)

Literary Criticism

Barlow, Adrian
- The Great War in British Literature (Cambridge University Press, 2000)

This is an introduction to FWW literature and is part of the Contexts in Literature series that C.U.P. are publishing. Although this book is aimed at 17-18 year olds, it is a very good introduction for anyone who is new to FWW literature and would like to learn more. It is well-written, clearly laid-out and well thought out. It contains some very useful sections, including a chronology relating to FWW literature, a glossary and a Further Reading list (which includes some web sites), as well as a Counter-Attack Recommended
good selection of extracts from FWW novels and some poems
(not all of which are well known texts, which I feel is a good thing).

Related Books

Charlotte Fyfe
- The Tears of War: the Love Story of a Young Poet and a War Hero (Cavalier Books, 2000)

This is an account, largely in their own words, of the relationship between Fyfe's great-aunt, May Cannan Wedderburn, one of the First World War's women poets, and her fiance, Bevil Quiller-Couch, son of the distinguished Cambridge academic, Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, and a much-decorated soldier. It includes many of Cannan's poems, which are largely unknown today.
